Pike Place Market was founded to give local farmers an opportunity to sell directly to the public, and to provide the public an opportunity to "meet the producer." As the oldest continually operating farmers' market in the nation, Pike Place Market attracts farmers from all over Washington state-from small, intensive plots to hundreds of expansive acres.

A big part of the Pike Place Market experience is touring the food and produce stalls, where customer will find countless vendors selling berries, cherries, veggies, flowers, and edible goods of all kinds.
The selection of fruits and vegetables can be overwhelming. Unique varieties from the Pacific Northwest can be explained by the market's vendors, many of whom are local farmers from the Seattle area.
It's hard to stroll through this place without filling a couple of shopping bags with fresh fruit and vegetables. Once you're done with the food stalls, wander across the street to buy smoked salmon at one of the many retailers and restaurants across Pike Place.
Every year, some 10 million visitors pass through Pike Place. But for all its growth and guidebook recognition, the market remains a commercial center that embraces small business and outlaws large chains.
