The company now known as "Seattle's Best Coffee" was originally named "Stewart Brothers Coffee" from 1969 to 1991, when it won a citywide competition that searched for Seattle's best coffee. Not happy with just winning the prize, the coffeehouse officially changed its name.
Seattle's coffee culture
Can you really visit Seattle and not experience a longing for coffee? With hundreds of coffee houses in the city and surrounding area, Seattle is the coffee consumption capital of the Northwest, if not the whole country. Pike Place Market saw the birth of Starbucks in 1971, which has established a foothold in coffee house retail outlets around the world.

Visit Starbucks at Pike Place only if you must, as the lines tend to be long, and other than being at the original Starbucks, it's not really any different than others found in your neighborhood. During the summer, the sidewalk outside the Starbucks is very popular with street musicians and you can often hear some great music here.
You'll find other fine retail coffeehouses, like Seattle's Best Coffee or Tully's and get your coffee delivered quicker, and probably enjoy it just as much.
Pike Place Market is a great place to find not only easily recognizable brands, but also a gateway to discover overlooked or more regional coffees, such as Fidalgo Bay Coffee, marketed from nearby Anacortes, some 90 miles north of Seattle.
