SYSTEM BENEFIT FUND:
USE IT FOR ITS INTENDED PURPOSES
Even though electricity prices and the System Benefit Fund are front page news in many parts of Texas, the fund is being used to balance the State budget instead of funding programs to benefit electric consumers.
Out of $738 million available from the System Benefit Fund, HB 1 appropriates roughly $175 million for originally intended purposes. SB 1 appropriates about $91 million.
THE LEGISLATURE SHOULD:
Pass HB 551 and SB 482 into law to rededicate the System Benefit Fund and clarify allowable programs and program eligibility requirements.
Through the Budget Conference Committee, appropriate all of the System Benefit Fund for the originally intended purposes as shown below.
TAKE ACTION: Contact Conference Committee Members Today and Ask Them to Spend ALL SBF Money On SBF Programs!
The budget conference committee is working on the final budget and the SBF is on the "to do" list.
The Conference Committee is looking at a House Budget of $176 million and a Senate Budget of $91 million. According to budget documents, there will be $738 million available. We need as many people as possible to contact the Budget Conference Committee members and ask them to develop a budget that spends all the SBF money on SBF programs.
